A new beach safety campaign has been launched in an effort to save lives in Maharashtra during the monsoon season.
The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has teamed up with the state government’s Department of Tourism to introduce a series of safety instructions for tourists visiting Maharashtra’s beaches in the coming months.
Some of these rules include avoiding deep water swimming, wearing floats or life jackets, and following the instructions of lifeguards. These instructions will be posted on boards at beaches across the state.
The heavy rains brought by the monsoons can cause strong currents and rip tides.
“The numbers of beachgoers have increased tremendously as Maharashtra offers experiential monsoon destinations. Tourist safety being imperative, MTDC along with Department of Tourism and government of Maharashtra has taken beach safety initiative to urge tourists to stay safe,” said Shri JaykumarJitendrasinh Rawal, Maharashtra’s Minister of Tourism.
The MTDC has also created a ‘Safe Selfie’ campaign on social media warning tourists about the dangers of taking selfies in dangerous locations, especially on beaches.
