The Indonesian island of Pulau Abang Besar will be transformed in the coming years, with the development of a major new resort complex.
Capital Venture Europe has unveiled plans for the Islandia, a new tourism complex that will be spread across 120 hectares of beachfront land.
In conjunction with the Malaysian property developer Huafa Assets, the company said that “extensive progress” has already been made with the first phase of the project, including land clearance and the creation of a ferry terminal that will connect Pulau Abang Besar with nearby Batam. A ground-breaking ceremony is expected to be held in 2017.
The US$900 million project will eventually feature hotels, resorts, residences and a theme park. There will also be a yacht marina, a duty-free “shopping street”, restaurants and bars, water sports, children’s facilities and a convention centre.
Located not far from Bintan, which is undergoing its own development boom, the Pulau Abang Besar complex will be accessible from Singapore.
