Malaysia Airlines to join oneworld

Malaysia Airlines is to join the oneworld alliance following a meeting held with IATA’s 2011 World Air Transport Summit. The carrier has been elected by oneworld members to join the association and is expected to finalise its membership in late 2012. Finnair said it would look to work closer with the airline when it joins. . For Finnair, Malaysia Airlines’ joining of the alliance will mean for a denser network of destinations in Asia and will also provide excellent support to our new Singapore route by increasing the number of onward connections for our business passengers,” said Paavo Virkkunen, vice president responsible for oneworld relations at Finnair. Other oneworld alliance members include American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Iberiea, JAL, LAN, Malev Hungarian Airlines, Mexicana, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and S7, plus subsidiaries. Kingfisher and airberlin are to join this year.
