The Malaysian government is to set up the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).
Tourism Minister, Azalina Othman Said, was quoted saying that the government would provide MYR5 million (US$1.4 million) to set up MyCEB will serve as a “one-stop” centre to coordinate meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) in the country.
She had said the goals were to secure MICE business for Malaysia and promote the country as the preferred MICE destination worldwide.
“MYCEB’s main objective is to ‘sell’ Malaysia. It will have an advisory council made up of qualified individuals and leaders from both the public and private sectors,” she was quoted saying at a press conference.
Newly-appointed MyCEB Director, Mohd Rosly Selamat, who was also present at the press conference, said MyCEB’s main stakeholders would be the government but it would be the advisory council that would take care of the money.
