Malaysia’s Malindo Air commenced scheduled services from the newly upgraded Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Ipoh, Perak, to Johor Bahru and Medan on Friday.
The frequency of flights to Medan and Johor Bahru are daily and four times weekly respectively.
Malindo Air chief executive officer, Chandran Rama Muthy, said: “The introduction of flights from Ipoh is part of our strategy to enhance our route network in Peninsula Malaysia.
“Ipoh has plenty of potential when it comes to tourism, particularly ecotourism and medical tourism. Moreover, we felt connecting Ipoh and Medan will drive tourism in both cities and spur economic development at the same time.”
