A man has threatened to sue Tourism Australia after claiming that the tourist board stole his idea to bring US talk show host Oprah Winfrey Down Under. Australian newspaper The Age reported that John Heuvel, Managing Director of Cairns-based dive tour operator Reef Encounter, claims that he spent AU$200,000 (US$199,000) developing and pitching his idea to Tourism Australia. But when Ms Winfrey finally did bring her show to Australia last month, they didn’t visit Cairns or use his dive services. Heuvel was quoted saying that he “got shafted”, and that he plans to sue for breach of contract.
