Manchester Airport is raising awareness of its long-haul operations to boost passenger figures. The airport’s latest campaign focuses on destinations in America, the Far East and India in an attempt to encourage people to travel from Manchester. It is estimated that the airport has lost 1.5 million passengers to other airports. Awareness of direct flights to the USA had dropped 9 - 12% in some regions compared to late November and around two thirds of residents knew about the services. “Just last year I said that 50% of travellers from the North wanting to fly to Dubai were driving to London rather than take flights from Manchester,” explained Manchester Airport’s Managing Director Andrew Harrison. “With two daily services and one of them being an A380, there’s no need to do that anymore and we want to win back the one million or so passengers we’re losing from our catchment area and remind them about the range of routes we offer from Manchester.”
