Indonesia’s Mandala Airlines hopes to increase its number of passengers to 9,000 in 2009, up from an expected 5,000 this year, the Jakarta Post has reported. The strong growth will be helped by Mandala’s plans to expand its fleet.
“Our fleet is 16 and we’re planning to increase that to 20 in 2009,” Mandala Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Warwick Brady, said. He added that the carrier has also placed a US$1.8 billion order for 30 Airbus planes which will be used to launch new routes. However Brady did not expand on which routes these would be.
