Mandarin Oriental has confirmed that its chief executive, Edouard Ettedgui, will step down on 31 March 2016, after 18 years.
He will be replaced by James Riley, who currently serves as group finance director of Jardine Matheson Holdings, which includes Mandarin Oriental in its diverse portfolio of businesses.
“Edouard has led Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group since 1998 and has been instrumental in the group becoming recognised by many as the best global luxury hotel group,” said Mandarin Oriental’s chairman, Ben Keswick. “It is an outstanding achievement, for which we are extremely grateful. I am very pleased that we will continue to benefit from his knowledge and experience as he will remain as a non-executive director.
“I would also like to wish James every success in continuing Edouard’s fine work of building the group’s portfolio and reputation,” he added.
Riley is no stranger to Mandarin Oriental, having served on the hotel group’s board for the past 10 years.
Mandarin Oriental now operates a portfolio of 46 hotels, either open or under development, in 25 countries.
