Mandarin Oriental has entered into a new global partnership with UnionPay International, the Chinese payment card company.
Aimed at generating more bookings from mainland Chinese guests, the partnership will involve cooperation on reservations and distribution, along with joint promotions. The UnionPay Credit Card is already accepted at almost all of the Mandarin Oriental’s hotels, and the ones that don’t are scheduled to accept the card within the next 12 months. Mandarin Oriental also offers UnionPay as an option for guaranteeing online bookings.
“China is already Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s second largest market, and we predict that it will become our largest market within the next five years,” said Mandarin Oriental’s chief marketing officer, Michael Hobson. “UnionPay cards is the most important credit card system in China and one with a rapid global expansion plan. As such, UnionPay International is an important long term strategic partner.”
As a result of the tie-up, UnionPay cardholders will be able to receive special benefits at 17 Mandarin Oriental properties, including room upgrades and special VIP services. Further benefits, such as free internet and breakfast will be offered to Platinum and Diamond cardholders.
