Marriott International’s signature brand, Marriott Hotels & Resorts has announced a global pipeline of nearly 50 new hotels and resorts to open in the next four years, almost half of which will be located in the Asia Pacific region. The fast-growing region will see 24 new Marriotts opening by the end of 2014, compared to 12 in The Americas, nine in the Middle East & Africa and just four in Europe.
“We are thrilled to announce this major growth trajectory of new hotels, each with its own unique design and sense of place but the same high standard of service and amenities that Marriott Hotels & Resorts provides to discerning and high-achieving business, meeting and leisure travellers worldwide,” said Paul Cahill, Senior Vice President of Brand Management for Marriott Hotels & Resorts. “Look for our hotels and resorts in many emerging business and leisure destinations, such as Jaipur, Cartagena, Algiers, Marrakech, Accra, Kigali and Vietnam.”
The brand is also featuring new designs to its lobbies, restaurants, fitness facilities and guest rooms. The most notable is the new Marriott Hotels & Resorts lobby, which is intended to provide a multi-purpose social space where guests can meet friends and colleagues, eat, plug in their devices, or and work either alone or in small groups.
In Asia Pacific, five properties are expected to open this year: the 295-room Shanghai Marriott Luwan, opening this month on the Huangpu River in Shanghai; the 364-room Jaipur Marriott Hotel, which also opens this month in India’s Pink City; the 720-room Shanghai Marriott Hotel City Centre, another late-June opener; the 319-room Guangzhou Marriott Hotel Tianhe, opening in August; the 199-room Rayong Marriott Resort & Spa, Thailand, which opens in October; and the 392-room Haikou Marriott Resort and Spa which opens in November in China’s southern island province of Hainan.
A further nine properties will open in Asia Pacific in 2012, with new additions in Shanghai, Wuxi, Bengaluru, Xi’an, Mumbai, Zhuhai, Nha Trang, Mulu (Malaysia), and Koh Samui. These will be followed by new entries in Bengaluru, Shenzhen, Koh Samui and Hoi An in 2013, and in Sanya, Yiwu (China), Noida (India), Hangzhou and Shanghai in 2014. In total the 24 new properties will add 7,627 rooms to the brand’s regional inventory.
