Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will increase the frequency of its flights to Melbourne later this year.
The Kuala Lumpur-based national carrier currently flies to the Australian city twice a day, with 1005 and 2200 departures from the Malaysian capital. But from 21 November 2013 this will be expanded to three daily services, with the addition of a new 1950 departure. The new flight will arrive in Melbourne at 0645 the following day, while the return flight will depart at 0855, getting back into KL at 1415.
With the extra daily flight being operated using an Airbus A330-300 aircraft, the third daily flight will increase capacity on the route from 7,896 to 11,844 seats per week.
“This is a 50% increase in the overall availability of seats. Melbourne is one of Malaysia Airlines’ key markets, now flying 21 times weekly and is in line with the airlines’ continued efforts to strengthen its position as a top airline within this region,” said MAS’ regional senior vice president for Australia, New Zealand & South West Pacific, Lee Poh Kait.
The Melbourne expansion will shortly follow the launch of MAS’ new five weekly flights to Darwin, which take off for the first time on 1 November 2013.
