Malaysia Airlines and China Southern Airlines have signed a codeshare agreement that would mean from today, customers of both will enjoy 35 weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and the Chinese cities of Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.
This agreement complements an earlier one where Malaysia Airlines’ customers traveled on China Southern flights to 90 destinations in China.
At the same time, China Southern Airlines’ customers flying into Kuala Lumpur can connect to all domestic points served by Malaysia Airlines and MASwings.
The two airlines are also able to tap feeder traffic from the domestic routes of India and China. Malaysia Airlines Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Idris Jala said, with the codeshare, he expected to see a 7% growth in passenger volume for the carrier’s China-Malaysia bound flights.
Both carriers are also looking at how their frequent flier members can earn and redeem miles when they travel on each other’s services.
