Malaysia Airlines is targeting to carry 25% more Indians, up from 3.2 lakh to 4 lakh this year, with its new mega global sales promotion. “Last year, we had carried 3.2 lakh passengers from this country and we are looking at a 25% cent spike this year to 4 lakh. We expect our new global promotion to help us achieve this,” Malaysia Airlines Executive Vice-President (Sales & Marketing) Bernard Francis told PTI.The Malaysian national carrier, which completed 10 years of operations from Mumbai this month, operates 40 flights a week from the country, connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad with Kuala Lumpur. It operates 12 flights a week from Delhi, and flies daily from the other four cities. The airline entered India way back in 1982 connecting Madras with Kuala Lumpur and a formal multi-city operations started only in 2011. However, Francis ruled out entering any more Indian cities saying the airline, which has a dynamic code share with Jet Airways, has already used up all the seats and cannot enter without the bilterals being reworked. “We are hopeful that the governments of both the nations will discuss this issue at the earliest, as India is a very important market for us, giving us 10% of our international revenue. That makes India the third largest international sector for us.” On the massive discounted sales offer, Francis said, under ‘global deals, dream getaway’ promotion (which begins from 16 May and closes on 31 May), the airline is offering 6 million seats with up to 80% discount, on both economy as well business classes.
