Massive security for Thai vote

They will be on duty as Thais vote in the kingdom’s first referendum on Aug 19 at 87,000 polling stations across the nation,  police general Vichien Potphosri was quoted saying by AFP.

Security will be further enhanced during the referendum in Thailand’s three southern provinces, where separatist unrest has been raging since January 2004.

After the coup last September, the military tossed out Thailand’s 1997 Constitution and last month, a military-appointed council approved the final draft of a new Constitution.

This new Constitution is meant to guide Thailand back to democracy afterlast year’s bloodless coup, the report said.
