A new survey from Hotelbeds has found the Mediterranean remains UK holidaymakers’ favourite destination overall, followed by the US.
According to Hotelbeds data, Spain continues to be the top destination country for UK holidaymakers, with almost one out of three travellers flying to the country to enjoy their summer vacation. The Balearic island of Majorca registers as the top destination with the US following in second place some distance apart. Orlando, Florida remains the most important US destination for British holidaymakers, with over half of those crossing the ocean spending their holiday in this classic destination.
Despite the fact that the country’s uncertain economic and political situation have led recently to a slowdown in the creation of new bookings, Greece still ranks third in the list of preferences for British travellers. Turkey, Portugal and Italy follow the country in the rankings.
The importance of the Mediterranean region as a leading destination does not just apply to visitors from the UK, with all of the above countries plus France also topping the rankings for visitors from all source markets, according to Hotelbeds’ data.
Commenting on the findings, Carlos Muñoz, managing director of Hotelbeds said: “As the leading source market for Hotelbeds, the British market is a good benchmark for global travel trends. In this regard, our data for the current summer season indicate that it will be another record year for many destinations in the Mediterranean.”
