Indonesia is extending the current “Visit Indonesia Year” promotion into 2009 with a focus on conventions, Bisnis.com has quoted the Chairman of the Indonesia Conference and Convention Association (INCCA), Iqbal Allan Abdullah, as saying.
According to a Bali Update (www.balidiscovery.com) report, the focus on conventions reflects data from the Bureau of Statistics (BPS) that indicate 41% of tourism revenues come from conference-related travel.
Reflecting this reality, INCCA in cooperation with the government, has provided training to 2,000 MICE workers in 10 conference destinations nationwide.
The ten cities designated to benefit from conference promotion are Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Manado, Makassar, Batam, Medan and Bukittinggi.
In a related development, representatives of the MICE industry met in Bali last week for the first Indonesia MICE and Corporate Travel Mart. Around 100 businesses exhibited their products at the four-day meeting.
According to a Jakarta Post report, the event provided an opportunity for companies to make short-term negotiations and increase business in the face of the financial crisis.
“The crisis has made Indonesia a destination with competitive advantages in terms of price and tourism appeal,” Panca Rudolf Sarungu, Chairman of the organising committee, was quoted saying.
