Meghalaya focuses on green tourism

Meghalaya, the popular north eastern state in India, known as the Switzerland of the East, is keen to promote tourism but with great caution and concern.The focus is on green tourism and on sustainability. Senior tourism officials of the State told a meeting in Gwahati recently that while hotel projects are welcome, they should rely on water harvesting and energy-saving devices so that the environment is not harmed.The capital of the State, Shillong, has many beautiful attractions and the State intends to rely on culture and nature to promote tourism.
