The Maritime Heli Air Services Pvt Ltd (MEHAIR) has successfully conducted seaplane trial landings at Mula Dam yesterday.
MEHAIR’s Cessna 206H Amphibian aircraft took off from Juhu Aerodrome in the morning and landed at the dam 45 minutes later. Located in close proximity to religious sites of Meherabad, Shirdi and Shani Shinglapur, the waterdrome at the dam is ideally suited for people who want to get to these destinations quickly and return the same day to Mumbai.
The company is also tying up with a taxi service to ensure that passengers get their destination with ease. The bookings to these sectors are open on the company’s website, with services beginning from 26 March. A one way ride between Mumbai and Mula dam is expected to cost around INR7,500 per person.
Speaking on the occasion, Siddharth Verma, co-founder & director of MEHAIR said, “The launch of this service is exciting for the state and the large number of devotees who travel to the holy towns of Meherabad, Shirdi and Shani Shinglapur as it will bring these places within an hour and a half of Mumbai as opposed to 6 hour journeys. We are confident that the public at large will see the value of the service and take full advantage of it.”
Trial flights were also undertaken at Pawna Dam (near Lonavala) yesterday, which became the third destination after Mula Dam and Aamby Valley Lake to be connected with the seaplane service.
MEHAIR pioneered the launch of seaplanes in India three years back and its first seaplane has been operation in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands since Jan, 2011. The company entered into an MOU with the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) to launch seaplanes in the state last month.
