Vietnamese company Mekong Aviation has submitted an application to the country’s Civil Aviation Administration (CAAV) to launch its proposed passenger carrier, Mekong Air. The Vietnam News has reported the new airline has the capital required by Vietnamese law capital to start operations, and plans to use Canadian Bombardier aircraft to fly twice daily domestic services from Ho Chi Minh City to Rach Gia, Phu Quoc, Ca Mau and Can Tho. Despite these troubled times for the aviation industry, Mekong Air is the third private airline in Vietnam to request an operating licence this year. Vietjet Air and Speed Up Air have already been given CAAV permission to start domestic services.
