Tourism ministers from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam held a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City last week to explore ways to boost tourism in all the four countries.
Many delegates at the meeting said the four countries should exempt the visa fee for foreign visitors who want to travel within these countries. Hoang Tuan Anh, Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, told local press that more must be done to develop infrastructure and services across the region for integration to succeed. Better air and rail links will also help facilitate travel and promote tourism between the partner countries.
A total of 200 stakeholders attended the meeting which was held in response to reports that one in 10 visitors to Vietnam want to travel to Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar too. Vietnam is not only a major transit point for foreign travellers, but a major source of international arrivals for the other Mekong countries.
