Merlin Entertainments has sold off its Ostend visitor attraction Earth Explorer to the Germany-based Blueprint Entertainment.
Currently closed, the Belgian attraction will open in four to six weeks under the new Blueprint ownership, which adds to its group of science-based attractions.
Glenn Earlam, managing director Midway Attractions at Merlin said the move was part of its strategy to focus on the development of SEA LIFE, Madame Tussauds, LEGOLAND Discovery Centres and the ‘Eye’ attractions.
“We therefore felt that a different operator may be better able to give Earth Explorer the kind of focus required to optimise the future development of a science based attraction,” he added.
Andreas Waschk, chairman of Blueprint Entertainment said the acquisition was part of a larger expansion plan for the group.
The two companies will cross-market with the nearby SEA LIFE centre.
