MIA charts 5.9 m passengers

Muscat International Airport (MIA) recently reported a consistent growth in aircraft movements and passenger numbers for August 2014. The total number of flights increased by 1.1% reaching 54,038 flight movements, compared with 53,459 recorded during 2013. The number of international and domestic passengers handled reached 5,915,528 passengers, compared with 5,528,361 passengers in 2013, reflecting an annual increase of seven percent.
The statistics were issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). Further, the total number of international flights in Muscat International Airport reached 47,390 flights, compared with 47,132 flights during 2013, representing an annual increase of 0.5%.
Statistics also reveal the total number of international arrival, departure and transit passengers recorded at Muscat International Airport increased by 6.8%, reaching 5,352,541 passengers, compared with 5,010,091 passengers during the same period in 2013, this figure is represented by 2,677,122 arrival passengers, 2,651,802 departure passengers and 23,617 transit passengers.
The total number of domestic flights at Muscat International Airport by the end of August 2014 reached 6,648 flights, representing an increase of 5.1% when compared to 6,327 flights during the same period in 2013, while the total number of domestic passengers increased by 8.6%, reaching 562,987, compared with 518,270 passengers recorded during the same period in 2013.
According to the NCSI figures, traffic movements at Salalah Airport showed growth with flight and passenger numbers increasing. The total number of flights recorded reached 5,678 flights, compared with 4,654 flights during 2013, representing an annual growth of 22%. Meanwhile, total number of passengers recorded an increase of 16.1%, reaching 571,246 passengers, compared with 491,891 passengers during the same period in 2013.
The NCSI Air movement statistics reveal that the number of international flights at Salalah Airport reached 1,902 flights by the end of August 2014, compared with 1,124 flights during the same period in 2013, a significant annual growth of 69.2%.
The total number of international passengers increased by 57.3% by the end of August 2014, reaching 159,892 passengers compared with 101,668 passengers recorded in the same period in 2013. Meanwhile, total number of domestic flights at Salalah Airport increased by seven percent, reaching 3,776 flights compared with 3,530 flights during the same period in 2013. Domestic passenger numbers also increased by 5.4%, reaching 411,354 passengers, compared with 390,223 passengers during the same period in 2013.
