Middle East room pipeline up 23.5%: STR

More than 154,576 rooms across some 550 hotels are Under Contract in the Middle East, according to the latest report by STR.
This Under Contract total for June 2016 represents a 23.5% increase in rooms compared to June 2015.
Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.
The number of rooms In Construction has increased 14.1% year on year to 81,951 rooms in 256 hotels.
In Africa, 55,736 rooms in 289 hotels were Under Contract in June 2016, up 29.1% compared to June 2015.
The number of rooms In Construction increased 31.5% year-over-year to 30,703 rooms in 157 hotels.
Saudi Arabia reported the most rooms In Construction across the MEA region, with 35,770 rooms in 81 hotels. The United Arab Emirates followed with 26,989 rooms in 93 hotels. Two other countries each reported more than 5,000 rooms In Construction: Qatar (7,125 rooms in 30 hotels) and Egypt (6,095 rooms in 18 hotels).
