The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has agreed to open Agra runway on certain dates to allow chartered planes to land. The MoD had rejected the state government’s request to reschedule six months of maintenance work at Agra’s Kheria airport which could affect the upcoming inbound season. The Indian Air Force, which controls the airport, decided to take up the maintenance and upgrading work from 1 October 2011 to 31 March 2012. The UP Tourism Department had informed the Defence Ministry that a number of chartered planes were already scheduled to land in Agra from different parts of the world during this period.
