Monarch chief executive Andrew Swaffield has thanked the UK travel trade for its support during turbulent times.
Speaking to the UK travel industry today at the ABTA Travel Convention in Abu Dhabi, the airline boss said: “I’m so impressed by the messages of support from the trade and the trade press, and I’ve taken heart from that support.
“I stand before you hugely optimistic about the future of our company.”
Swaffield was speaking just hours after Monarch announced the biggest investment in its 48-year history – a £165 million cash injection from its majority shareholder, Greybull Capital.
As a result of this investment Monarch has successfully renewed its ATOL licences from the CAA for the next 12 months and funded future growth plans.
Swaffield said the re-licensing issues the airline had experienced over the last few weeks had impacted holiday bookings while flight sales had remained “robust”.
Monarch’s key focus now was on customer service and to become “the most recommended airline group” based on customer service and punctuality.
“You can bet on our future, you can bet we will look after our customers, you can bet we will look after our travel agents as key to our distribution model and you can bet we will deliver an interesting proposition,” Swaffield said.
He also took the opportunity to thank Monarch’s “outstanding” staff and the understanding of its customers during recent difficult times.
