Monarch Airlines will stop flying from East Midlands Airport next year, despite only begging operations at the airport in 2012.
The carrier currently flies to nine destinations form the airport and operates 34 flights a week, but a Monarch spokesman said the decision was made after a review of services and the final flight would be in April 2015.
Andrew Swaffield, chief executive of The Monarch Group, said the company’s success in the future “depends upon us delivering the best possible operation and quality of service for our customers”, adding that these needed to be “at sustainable levels of profitability”.
East Midlands Airport management said that while the Monarch withdrawal was “regrettable”, it still offered a “huge choice” of routes and services through other carriers.
