Virgin Atlantic has installed mood lighting into its Airbus A330 to help relax passengers in flight. The system will light up cabins in a soft pink hue when they board to help de-stress travellers and this will change to a ‘comfortable’ purple during the flight and into ‘amber warmth’ while customers eat. It will then take a silvery feel when it is time to sleep. The carrier was also keen to stress that the architectural lighting can make people look more attractive (is this a concern for Virgin’s customers? – Ed.). The system is currently in premium economy cabins but will be rolled out in future aircraft and cabins. “After extensive research, we chose a palette of colours to create a relaxing ambience onboard our new aircraft,” said Luke Miles, head of design at Virgin Atlantic. “We aim to help our passengers unwind, sleep and arrive at their destination rejuvenated”.
