Despite soaring oil prices, Korea’s airlines are to increase the number of flights between cities in Korea and Japan, Korea Herald has reported.
Korean Air, the country’s largest air carrier, will increase its number of flights between Seoul and Fukuoka to seven times a week from the current four.
In October, Korean Air also plans to double the number of flights between Busan and Fukuoka from the current seven times a week.
The report said Korean Air Co. posted a net loss in the second quarter of the year last week because of higher fuel costs and a weaker won.
To counter higher fuel costs, Korean Air has cut more than 10 international routes, except for flights to Japanese cities, and has increased the surcharges on domestic flights, the report said.
The Herald also quoted industry sources as saying that Japan Airlines would also increase its number of flights between Tokyo and Seoul to 26 times a week, and from Osaka to Seoul to 21 times beginning in October.
