Langham Hotels International plans to expand its hotel management business in Thailand’s five major destinations over the next five years, Bangkok Post reported.
Vice-president Andrew Jessop was quoted saying that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with owners of two new hotels being constructed in Phuket and expected to start operating by the third quarter of this year.
It is also in talks with owners of two new hotels in Bangkok while Samui and Chiang Mai are next on its agenda, the report said. In October last year, the company opened its first property under a management contract with the Rawi Warin Resort & Spa Company.
Langham Place Eco Resort + Spa Rawi Warin Koh Lanta, Krabi is the first resort property in Langham’s portfolio. According to Jessop, the resort had doubled its occupancy rate last year compared to 2006, since it became a Langham.
The hotel is targeting mainly Asians and Australians. It’s also awaiting the launch of direct flights to Krabi from Oslo and Munich. Jessop was quoted saying that they had also signed agreements with hotel owners in the Middle East and India and would enter Danang in 2010.
