The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has announced the launch of Incredible India Golf Tourism Summit in New
Delhi from 8-10 October 2014.
The summit will be organised in association with India Golf Tourism Association and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
“Countries like Japan and Hong Kong have shortage of golf courses and golfers of these nations can come to India and play at a comparatively low cost. We need to be tapping into this sector. The Ministry is not here to fund golf tournaments, but to help attract people from abroad, which is a net addition to the Indian economy,” Parvez Dewan, Secretary of Tourism in India was quoted by the Hindu Business Line.
The summit will include 12 hours of structured, pre-scheduled B2B meetings between buyers and suppliers from 30 countries who specialise in golf tourism.
Golf tourism is growing at 9.3% a year and about 1.6 million people travel for golf tourism every year. “India has 200 golf courses in all. About 30 of them are of a level where you can play professionally, and 15 are signature golf courses,” Dewan added.
