Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts has announced that it is adding five Nile river vessels to its fleet.
The SS Misr, Feddya, Hamees, Darakum and Sunray will join Mövenpick’s existing three river vessels, meaning that the firm will become the largest international operator on the River Nile.
“I am delighted with this development that is providing more choices to our guests,” said Roger Kacou senior vice president of Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts. “With the historical SS Misr, the romantic appeal of the SB Feddya, the unique MS Prince Abbas on Lake Nasser and the return of the ‘long cruise’ aboard MS Hamees, we are now offering an unrivalled wealth of variety and options for visitors to Egypt.”
The Misr was built almost 100 years ago and was the private ship of King Farouk – who turned it into his private yacht in 1938 – using the vessel especially for his birthday celebrations. The ship features artefacts from the time including letters from the king to his mother and the ship will serve dishes from the king’s menus.
The other ships also have their own unique characteristics, with the Feddya being a luxury boutique vessel and the Hamees, Darakum and Sunray all designed for longer cruises.
