Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has signed a third property in Bangladesh, and its first in the port city of Khulna.
Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2019, the new-build Mövenpick Hotel Khulna will feature 240 rooms and five food and beverage outlets, including two restaurants and rooftop bar.
It will also have extensive MICE facilities, with a convention centre able to handle 950 delegates, four meeting rooms each with a capacity of 50 guests, and a ballroom and pre-function area able to cater to 410 people. Other facilities include a spa, sauna, steam room, salon, swimming pool, jacuzzi, gym and three retail outlets.
Mövenpick’s maiden hotel in Khulna follows projects already underway in Cox Bazaar and Dhaka.
“We are very pleased to sign our third property in the country and establish ourselves as the first international hotel chain in Khulna,” said Andrew Langdon, Mövenpick’s senior vice president for Asia.
“We believe in Bangladesh and its future. It is rapidly developing economically and with it a rising and affluent middle class. This will be a key driver of our business as we look forward to offering corporate and leisure travellers to Khulna an internationally-branded, upscale hotel experience,” he added.
Mövenpick has significant expansion plans in Asia over the coming years, with a target of 30 hotels across South and Southeast Asia by 2020. The company’s focus markets include Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Vietnam and Bangladesh.
