Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has signed a deal to manage a beach resort on the Philippine island of Boracay.
The company has taken over the running of the Sol Marina Resort, which is set on Punta Bunga Beach, and will soon rebrand the property as the Mövenpick Resort Boracay.
Comprising three buildings set around the lagoon pool, the resort will offer 333 rooms, suites and villas, including family rooms and one unit with a private pool
Facilities include Italian, Japanese and Korean restaurants, a lobby lounge, beach club, outdoor pool with swim-up bar, plus several meeting rooms and a 450-pax ballroom.
The upscale resort will start welcoming guests in December 2015.
“Signing a property in Boracay is a significant development for Mövenpick, as it cements our presence in one of Asia’s most established resort destinations,” said Andreas Mattmüller, Mövenpick’s chief operating officer for the Middle East & Asia.
“Punta Bunga Beach, with its crystal-clear waters and soft white sand, is unspoiled and truly idyllic, attracting discerning travellers from all over the world from both the upscale leisure and corporate meetings segments.”
The Boracay resort will become the company’s second property in the Philippines, following the Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu. It will also boost the Swiss hotel group’s beach resort portfolio in Asia, where it currently operates two resorts in Phuket and one on Koh Samui, and has other properties in the pipeline in Pattaya, Quy Nhon and Bali.
