The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will miss out on a big opportunity to promote the region because it has too few staff to attend a major travel event. According to media reports, the MTDC has backed out of the India International Travel Mart (IITM) in Mumbai this weekend because it can’t afford the human resources to manage a presence there. With many natural and religious destinations, the state has huge tourism potential. However its marketing drive which is encapsulated in its ‘Year of Tourism’ campaign will be dealt a heavy blow by its absence from events such as this.
