Plans for Navi Mumbai Airport will get environmental clearance by October. Speaking to the Economic Times, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said the Environment Ministry had accepted the proposal, though the only concession is that non-aviation services must be built on the other side of the site to where they are currently planned. The project faltered when the ministry objected to the proposal based on the impact it would have on mangroves. However relocating non-aero development will alleviate ecological damage, and Patel hopes to begin contract bidding by the year-end.
