A new airline is expected to enter the Fiji market, according to Tourism Fiji’s Chairman, Patrick Wong. According to a Fiji Times report, the as yet unnamed airline will service the Japan route following the end of Air Pacific’s Narita service in March.
Wong was also reported saying that Continental Micronesia, the wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based Continental Airlines, was expected to provide twice weekly direct service between Fiji and Hawaii. This, Wong believes, will generate significant benefits to Fiji’s tourism industry by providing additional connectivity from mainland USA via Honolulu.
“Continental Micronesia’s service will not only provide connectivity from eight Japanese cities for Japanese outbound travel, but also provide connectivity from major American economic centres like New York, Houston and Los Angles to Fiji via connection at Honolulu,” Wong was quoted saying.
He said Continental Micronesia’s services would also provide travellers with flight and pricing options for travel to Fiji.
