By bolstering the fleet six of the state-owned carriers, new services will be launched to new destinations as the operator expand their route network.
The new aviation initiative will also see the opening of a second international airport in Hambantota late next year. Under the first stage, one million passengers and 45 thousand metric tonnes of cargo are to be handled through the new international airport, reports the Colombo Page. Meanwhile, with foreign arrivals set to spike in the coming years, aviation infrastructure in Sri Lanka must improve quickly to cater for increasing passenger volumes.
