A new all-suite boutique resort will open its doors in Bhutan later this year.
Set in the Punakha Valley, approximately 70km from Bhutan’s capital Thimpu, the Dhensa Punakha will offer just 24 suites plus a dining room, reading lounge and spa with two treatment rooms, steam room and sauna.
“We are extremely pleased to announce the launch of our first Dhensa property in Punakha,” said Dr Steven Chua, chairman of Dhensa Boutique Resorts, which is a subsidiary of Hong Kong’s Rykadan Hospitality Management.
“Our guiding values at Dhensa are simplicity and the natural curiosity of youth. We felt that Bhutan was absolutely the right place to introduce our brand given its acknowledged status as the source of inner purity and peace as well as its culture, which cherishes ‘Gross National Happiness’ over ‘Gross National Product’.”
Flanked by pine forests, the new resort overlooks the Punakha River and surrounding rice fields. The 24 suites are set in six separate cottages, and all have private balconies overlooking the surrounding landscape. The resort will have a sustainable ethos, with organic cuisine in the restaurant and spa treatments using natural ingredients.
Dhensa Punakha is due to open in March 2014.
