MSC Cruises has announced Gianni Onorato as its new chief executive officer.
Onorato is to take up his new role on 2 September after previously serving as president of Costa Cruises for nine years.
MSC’s current CEO Pierfrancesco Vago will continue to lead the cruise line as executive chairman, overseeing the tourism strategy across the MSC group.
Onorato said: “I am thrilled to have been appointed to this exciting role. I will do everything I can to add value to the company and help MSC Cruises maximise its industry-leading position. I look forward to starting work with the management team in this significant moment of the company’s growth.”
Vago had led MSC since 2003 when EUR6 million was injected to develop the line. The cruise line has since developed as a newcomer to the world’s third biggest cruise company with 10 new ships built in less than 10 years.
“I am confident that the appointment of Gianni will consolidate our management structure, building on its existing strengths and boosting the company’s development plans even further,” added Vago.
Earlier this year, Giles Hawke was named managing director UK at MSC.
