New cruise terminal opens in Malaga

Spain’s southern port of Malaga has opened its new passenger cruise terminal.

The new terminal is a part of the recent rejuvenation program of its harbour area.

Set over two floors, the terminal has more than 900-square metres space and is able to accommodate ships of up to 200-metres long. The terminal also boasts a specially designed passenger footbridge which connects the cruise ship to the pier.

Malaga is becoming increasing popular with cruise lines as a viable alternative to the much busier port of Barcelona. The new terminal is part of the Quay 2 development, located just outside of the city centre. The Quay development encompasses an area over 14, 000 square metres of shopping and leisure facilities and the main high street and commercial centre is only five minute walk away.

The first ship to use the new terminal is Windstar’s Wind Surf with many more ships scheduling calls and turnarounds over the next few months.
