New Dubai visa office for Cyprus Tourism

The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) has opened a new visa processing centre in Dubai to facilitate tourists and fast track visa processing.The visa office – a collaboration between the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in the UAE and VFS Global LLC - has been established in response to surge in UAE visitors to Cyprus over the past five years.The Ambassador of Cyprus to UAE Costas Papademas stated: “We’ll do everything possible to facilitate travelers and to promote tourism and business between Cyprus and the UAE.”The visa application centre, which is located in Atrium Centre, next to Citi Bank on Bank Street in Bur Dubai, will be open from Sunday to Thursday, from 9am to 5pm, with no appointment requirements.VFS Global, a specialist partner for diplomatic missions worldwide and part of the Zurich based Kuoni Travel Group, will provide support services for those requiring visas to travel to Cyprus from Dubai and Northern Emirates.Tourism arrivals to Cyprus increased 4.3% in August 2010 compared to the same month the preview year.Visitors for the first eight months of the year saw 0.7% year-on-year spike, according to the island’s statistics department.Tourism accounts for almost 12% of Cyprus’s gross domestic product and appears to be picking up. Visitor arrivals in August, a popular holiday month for both foreign and domestic holidaymakers, rose to 304,264 visitors from 291,583 in the same month in 2009. For the January to August period, 1.48 million tourists visited Cyprus compared to 1.47 million in the corresponding period last year.
