Hainan Airlines is planning to launch a new flight linking China’s Hainan Island with Rome.

The airline has applied to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for permission to launch two weekly flights between the Italian capital city and Hainan’s provincial capital, Haikou. If approved, the flights will start in March 2016.

The new route would include a stop in Chongqing in both directions, marking an extension of the Chongqing-Rome route launched by Hainan Airlines in April 2015. The airline also flies direct between Xi’an and Rome.

Both these routes are operated using a 222-seat two-class Airbus A330 aircraft, with flat-bed seats in business class.
