A new online guide to Mekong travel has been released appealing to travellers with a conscience.
Mekong Responsible Tourism describes over 185 responsible holiday activities in the Mekong river region of Southeast Asia. It lists boutique hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, shops and tour operators that all assert positive change throughout Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Viet Nam and the Guangxi and Yunnan provinces of China. The site also profiles the natural and heritage sites in each country, as well offering cultural tips. All these features are incorporated onto Google Maps, so travellers can see what’s available in each region.
Twenty responsible tour operators are featured on the site, and are only included if they satisfy social, cultural and environmental sustainability ratings. Meanwhile, comment zones allow travellers to post their own tour reviews.
The guide is available online and PDF download, while a mobile app will be developed in the future.
