A major new resort complex is being planned for Siem Reap, the gateway town for Angkor Wat.
Cheung Sheng Global Holdings has announced plans to create the Oasis Integrated Resort – an 18,000m² complex comprising a 120-room hotel, retail and entertainment outlets, and an “open concept glass-lined ceiling food street”.
According to the company, this will include a row of bars, each designed to reflect a different nationality, including Japanese, Chinese and Korean.
The project will be located on the Siem Reap ring road, approximately three minutes’ drive from the city centre.
“Siem Reap is a great place with all its heritage, but there is really little one can do when nightfall approaches,” commented Jerome Ang, chairman of Cheung Sheng.
“We all realised this problem when after a while we simply had nowhere to go in the nights that we spent in the city. The night market is a place you would go once or twice, but not repeatedly. The city lacks a place that would keep people hanging out throughout the night, again and again.”
The company’s general manager for Cambodia, Robin Teo, added that the new resort complex “will be the first pub street in Cambodia that pools together international culture into a single spot”.
Construction is set to start in June 2014 and the resort is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2015.
