A new design of laptop (notepad) computer bag has been designed to make life easier for air passengers. For years, the New York Times reported, air travellers have been required to remove laptops from their bags at security checkpoints. But now leading bag manufacturers, Pathfinder Luggage and Targus, have both said they have designed laptop cases that are ‘checkpoint friendly. Airports’ security x-ray equipment has trouble seeing inside standard laptop cases due to the protective material of the bags and the cluttered cables that are often crammed inside. However the new cases include either a fold-down section in a bigger briefcase or a stand-alone protective sleeve that contains no extra clutter. Ron Davis, the Executive Vice-President of Pathfinder Luggage, said that his company has started producing its two new cases and that they had been tested at checkpoints to ensure that they met government specifications. “They don’t want anything obscuring the view of the laptop,” Davis said. “In our case, the material is nylon and foam, and the X-ray machine will see right through that.” Removing laptops from cases rates among the highest annoyances for travellers at airports.
