Forty MPs have backed calls for a study into the impact of Air Passenger Duty (APD) on the UK economy.
Ministers from all three parties signed the EDM 244 which outlines how the tax could be acting as a deterrent to investment and inbound tourism while also affecting outbound travel.
The ‘A Fair Tax on Flying’ campaign has been targeting businesses this year to gather support for its campaign to abolish APD. Last year the campaign resulted in 200,000 emails sent to UK MPs raising concerns over the tax.
“Given that last year APD was such a postbag issue, with MPs receiving over 200,000 emails from constituents, it is incredibly promising that 40 MPs have already signed EDM 244. We welcome their support in highlighting the restrictions APD is placing on business,” said Simon Buck, chief executive of the British Air Transport Association (BATA).
