A unique rural wellness and leisure resort will open at Moganshan, in eastern China’s Zhejiang province in October 2011. Located in a private valley, naked Stables Private Reserve will be a 212-room ecoresort and equestrian centre surrounded by a large reservoir, bamboo and tea plantations and small farming villages.
Accommodation includes free-standing Tree-Top Villas and Earth Huts, which have all been constructed using sustainable materials. Dining options include an 80-seat Afro-Asian organic restaurant overlooking the reservoir, The Clubhouse Cafe, a Pool Bar and Bistro and 24-hour room service. The resort also includes a 750-square metre spa and Wellness centre called ‘naked Leaf’ with nine treatment rooms on stilts located in the bamboo forest, and seven further treatment rooms in the main building. naked Stables Private Reserve also features an 800-square metre conference centre, which includes seven multi-functional meeting spaces and two large decks looking over the bamboo forest and reservoir. There is also a children’s play area and daycare centre.
One of the key facilities that will set the resort apart is the Equestrian Centre, which has stables for 20 horses, plus an equestrian field and mountain riding trails. naked Stables will be one of the only resorts in China to offer such a facility. Other leisure facilities include three outdoor swimming pools, including two heated pools for the winter months, mountain biking and hiking paths. An organic farm will be opened next year.
naked Stables Private Reserve is the brainchild of China-based eco-resort pioneers, naked Retreats. The resort uses local traditional construction methods such as mud walls, bamboo structures and stone masonry, and plans to become one of the first resorts in Asia to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) Platinum certification.
naked Retreats also own and manage naked Home Village, which opened in Moganshan in 2007. The company’s founder, Grant Horsfield said; “We are aiming for what we call ‘sustainable luxury’ with naked Stables Private Reserve, inspired by the recuperative power of nature. Having lived in the amazing surroundings of Moganshan for the last five years, I want people to be able to experience the same feelings I do every day.”
To allow guests to experience local cultures, the resort will also offer four ‘naked Galleries’ around a small lake, each with its own cultural theme: the Tea Pavilion, Bamboo Museum, Project Museum and the Pottery Studio. Guests will be able to visit these outlets to try their hand at local handicrafts. In addition, an amphitheatre will host concerts and cultural performances.
