New NZ resort caters for carbon conscious
Karapiro Wellness Resort is New Zealand’s first hotel to adopt a carbon offset programme for its guests.
Set to open in May this year, the five-star resort is located near Cambridge, on the shores of Lake Karapiro.
The resort’s carbon offset programme is a joint initiative with Carbon Zero and the Mangatahe Trust. The programme, the first to be adopted by a New Zealand hotel, works by calculating guests’ carbon footprint when they settle their bill at the end of their stay.
Guests are then invited to make a donation of the same value to the Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust.
