Hong Kong now has a major new attraction, with the launch of a new observation wheel overlooking Victoria Harbour.
The 60-metre-high Hong Kong Observation Wheel has 42 gondolas, including one special VIP cabin, each seating up to eight passengers. All gondolas are also equipped with Wi-Fi.
“Swiss AEX is delighted and proud to announce the early opening of the Hong Kong Observation Wheel showcasing stunning daytime and night time views of the spectacular Hong Kong harbour,” said Timothy J. Peirson-Smith, spokesperson for attraction’s operator, Swiss AEX.
“The Hong Kong Observation Wheel will draw millions… to see the ever changing, new and truly unique perspectives on Hong Kong, bringing colour, vitality and life to truly catalyse the Hong Kong’s Central waterfront area.”
Open daily from 11am to 11pm, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel is expected to handle approximately one million passengers a year. Each rotation takes 15-20 minutes, offering views across the Hong Kong skyline. Gondolas are air-conditioned during the summer and heated in winter.
The site of the wheel will also include an “event plaza”, with a variety of events to be held throughout the year, plus outlets selling drinks and snacks. Tickets for the Hong Kong Observation Wheel cost HK$100 (US$12.90) for adults and HK$70 for children.
At 60 metres high, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel falls well short of rival wheels around the world. The world’s highest observation wheel, the High Roller in Las Vegas, stands 167.6 metres high, while Asia’s highest, the Singapore Flyer, is 165 metres.
